My Food Place of the Week: Wagamama

Whilst at the Bullring Bloggers Event, I received a card for a complimentary Wagamama meal. Of course I had to redeem it and break my Wagamama virginity, but let's just say, I wasn't overly impressed.

The restaurant is located in a prime location outside the Bullring, just opposite the Bullring Markets.

This wasn't my meal, although it looks tasty, it was actually a piece of paper that was on the table. Seeing this made me feel all happy and excited for my meal.

All systems go!

It was a Wednesday night and I thought it would be quiet but I was wrong, the restaurant was quite busy and the staff were whizzing round like bunch of roadrunners.

After having a failing in communication with the waiter, who took my order but didn't let me know that a juice I ordered was sold out. I was waiting around 15 minutes and until I had to ask where it was. That obviously did not put me in the best of moods but I was still excited for my meal. I ordered the Prawn Kare Lomen.

This is ramen noodles in a spicy coconut and lemongrass soup topped with prawns, cucumber and beansprouts. garnished with coriander and lime. The spoon was mahoosive, how do you eat ramen soup with that thing?!

The dish looked promising, the prawns were perfect and I loved the mixture of cucumber with beansprouts and prawns. But once the prawns were finished, it was boring and tasteless. It became an ugly soup and I couldn't finish it. This says alot, as I hate leaving food behind but I just couldn't finish it.

I also tried the chilli squid and that was AMAZING and redeemed Wagamama for me. It was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was served with a chilli oil that was a perfect accompaniment. This side dish makes me want to go back and try something else, the dish I choose could've been just the wrong dish for me but there may be others that suit me.

A  nice array of options for allergy suffers

Service - 3/5
It was busy and my waiter was finding it hard to keep track of everything.
No cutlery, no checking if the meal was ok for me and no checking of any sort.

Cleanliness - 5/5

Location - 5/5

Value for Money - 3/5
The prices are a little expensive, especially in comparison to prices like Woktastic, but you do get a big portion.

I hope to try Wagamama again and shall keep you all posted, if anyone is reading.
