What are the vegan options like at Rose Villa Tavern?

So many people think that vegan food is super healthy and consists of quinoa and raw cakes. Some of it does but the best vegan food is junk food, such as burgers, pizza, kebabs, fries, wings and nachos. I was promised the filthiest of vegan food when I was invited to review the vegan options on the new menu at the Rose Villa Tavern in the Jewellery Quarter. Read on to find out how it was.

On the new menu, there is a total of 10 vegan options. This consists of baked cauliflower wings with a handful of sauce toppings, nachos, fries, burgers, hot dogs and a dessert. All are clearly marked with a VV to show that they are vegan on the main menu. So there is no faffing about asking for the vegan menu or asking questions about what you can sub or make a meal out of. Bliss!

First up is the Jacktine Super Dope Fries (£5.50) that consists of pulled bbq jackfruit, thick gravy, melted cheese and of course, fries. This sounds pretty gross but I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it actually was. The fries were in the gravy, which was also lovely and worked well with the slight saltiness of the jackfruit and crispiness of the fries that were on the top. Highlight of the meal!

Another highlight of the meal was the Moroccan Burger (£9.00) (shown in the image above). This contains a patty that was made of Ras el Hanout spiced fried chickpeas and coriander. It is then topped with red onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, mayo and cheese. It can be served with salad or fries, for this we chose salad, which also looked great. The burger was ace and another of the highlights of this meal. Spiced well, great portion and the bun was lovely! The mayo and cheese was a little weird but still tasty. Highly recommend this hearty and filthy burger!

I love cauliflower and knew I had to try out the Cauliflower Flings (£5.00) with Korean Glazed sauce. I also loved this! The sauce was perfectly sweet, sour and with a pang of chilli and it worked well with the meaty chunks of cauliflower. Another favourite! Great portion too and this was the half portion.

There are three vegan burgers on the menu. I tried two of them, as Beet It was out of stock. First it was the Moroccan burger and the second was Jack's and Jalas (£9.50), which contained frickles, pulled bbq jackfruit and vegan mozzarella in the lovely soft pretzel bun. It's not as good as the Moroccan burger but it's still pretty damn tasty and worth a try. I found the jackfruit was spiced well but just needed an extra chilli zing. This one came with the fries, which were also lovely. Again, nice burger but the Moroccan one was better, in my opinion.

Last, but not least, is the Vegan Nachos (£6.75). These were topped with avocado, cheese, salsa and jackfruit. I enjoyed this but it was full of dry ingredients and nachos need something wet, I don't mean to be vulgar but something like a runny salsa or good guac would work well with this. But the nachos themselves reminded me of the nachos at Bodega, which is never a bad thing.

As well as all of this awesome vegan food, I also enjoyed this lovely mocktail, Paradise Punch. Fruity, tasty and displayed in this lovely full bodied glass. A great drink to watch down all that yummy food. FYI I didn't eat it all by myself, I shared with my mama and we took the rest home. We like to eat but we're not crazy lol.

Overall, the service, food and overall experience at RVT was ace. Since then I have revisited with some of my ex workmates and had the Moroccan burger, which again was great.
