The first time I tried Marco Pierre White in The Cube, Birmingham, they served me dairy products and store bought cakes, so it didn't leave me enthused about the eatery. Since then they have rectified the situation but their vegan items have never been very exciting. So with this in mind, I visited the eatery to try out a three-course meal and listen to some 80s live music by Elegant Entertainment. I love live music, so this swayed me to go more than the food, and that says something!
So the venue is really pretty but it's the views that will keep you mesmerised. You can see a vast birds-eye view of the whole of Birmingham, Amazing!
The live music did not disappointment and it was nice to hear a variation of voices. A silky RnB voice and a raspy rock voice, which work well for the plethora of songs that were performed. From Bon Jovi to Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, Wham, Luther Vandross and so many other 80s classic were delivered effortlessly. I'm a huge fan of this team now!
On to the food...
For starters, I went for Garlic Portobello Mushrooms, toasted sourdough and vintage balsamic. As you can see they also added a chilli jam and spinach. I don't think the mushrooms were garlic flavoured but overall this was lovely. I like the mixture of items in this dish but I wish the bread had been toasted. It was also a large portion for a starter but I wasn't complaining.
For my main meal, I went for the Garden Veg Shepherd's Pie with petit pois. Oh my god, this was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good! I love the mixture of chunky veg in a tomatoey sauce with a topping of a soft creamy mash. I was just incredible and the sheer size of it had everyone else staring. I wish it came with a nice salad or maybe some broccoli. Because this girl loves the brocc! If you go here, this is what you should have.
For dessert, I chose Sticky Toffee Pudding.
This was lovely, hot and topped with sorbet. I didn't enjoy this as much as the other dishes. It was a tad too stodgy and it needed something creamy to accompany it. It was a good size but overall it should've been better.
**The views in this blog are my own but the meal was complimentary**
Would I go back? Yes, for the shepherd's pie and live music
How did they cope with the vegan dietary requirement? They have a separate vegan menu but double check as not all the staff are clued up.
What are the prices like? 2 courses are £20 and 3 courses are £25 for the vegan menu
What is eatery best for? Good views, a catch up, live music on a Friday night and a posh meal
Hope you enjoyed this review. Let me know if you're been and what you thought
