I haven't been to Zizzi's in the Mailbox in a while, so when I received an email offer for my mum's birthday, I couldn't miss out.
The branch has had a refurbishment since I had last visited, so I barely recognised it but it still has a nice warm atmosphere that I have always liked about Zizzi.
The best thing about my visit, was discovering that they have an Allergen Menu. This made my life so much easier and meant I didn't have to keep asking the waitress/waiter to go through everything on the menu for me; which can be tedious for both me and them.
There wasn't many options for vegans or for people who opt for dairy-free, especially for main dishes. However I was able to find out that this particular branch, in the Mailbox, do halal chicken, so this opened up a couple more options for me (halal chicken is only offered for certain dishes, so ask first).
The sheer amount of dishes that are suitable for vegetarian in comparison to dairy-free is vast and made me feel like I was really missing out.
I like the new branding that Zizzi have going on at the moment, very rustic and Italian.
I chose the only main I could have, which was the Pappardelle Pollo Funghi, which is Chicken and Mushroom Pasta. It was simply delicious. The pasta was al dente, the sauce was rich in flavour, the mushrooms were the perfect size and the chicken was amazing too. The best part was the seasoning of the rosemary on top, something I wouldn't normally add to pasta but it was a welcome change to oregano and something I will be adding to my own pasta dishes. If you want to add a little spice, just drizzle a little of the chilli oil, it really transforms the dish.
My mum went for the Risotto Pollo Funghi, which is essentially a Mushroom Risotto but with no chicken. She said it was perfectly creamy and the mushrooms were made beautifully.
As you can see, we loved it and cannot wait to visit again. Just get more dairy-free dishes on the menu!
