On my favourite street of hidden gems, John Bright St, is the new addition of Turtle Bay.

From the outside, it looks quite small but I soon found out that this is quite deceiving. It is a well proportioned restaurant, with the feel that you are in the Caribbean. With the bright colours, Caribbean paraphernalia, metal sheets and music.
We went on a sunday and it was quite busy, which was a testament to how good this place is.
There is alot of choice for vegetarians and vegans on the menu. They really do cater to everyone. Everything is clearly labelled on the menu and if in doubt, the staff are very friendly and approachable and are happy to answer your questions.
To drink, we choose a Watermelon Crush and a Passion Fruit Cooler.
They are soft drinks but were very nice, tasty and you could tell freshly made. It's nice when a restaurant pays attention to its soft drinks, as well as cocktails.
This is the Rastafari Run Down.
It is a mixture of vegetables with corn on the cob, coconut milk, rice 'n' peas and fried dumplings.
"It was the perfect portion, you could see that it was freshly made, complimented each other very well and it just melted in your mouth."
(Quoted from my dining partner, aka my mother)
This is the Jerk Salmon
It is salmon with jerk seasoning, sweet potato mash and salad.
I cannot fault my meal. The salmon was perfect, a fat portion and the seasoning was fantastic on it. The sweet potato mash was a caribbean blend that had some fire to it but it was cooled down with the salad. Which had no tomatoes in it, I hate tomatoes. It was fantastic.
On the side, we ordered some sweet plantain.
As you can see from the empty plate above, everything was super tasty.
I really enjoyed it at this restaurant, I cannot fault anything. The atmosphere, the location, the price, the food, the quirky home-looking dishes, the service, even the toilets were really good. Would definitely recommend this place to friends, especially for birthday parties because I just want an excuse to go back.

The meal came up to £30 pounds. This included 2 mains, 2 drinks and a side dish.
Well worth it for the portion size and taste.
Have you tried it?
Do you agree?

** Update **
Whenever I find a place to eat that I love then I end up there quite regularly, so I thought I would add some of the new dishes I have tried.
Curry, Shrimp and Mango. My favourite - A must try! |
Trini Doubles - Another must try and a good light bite/starter |
Plantain - Sooooooo good |
Escovitch Fish - Full of flavour and super filling. |
Trini Curry Fish - The squid was very chewy and overcooked. Did not like this as much as the others. |
