Just when you think you have seen and tasted all the vegan options in Birmingham, another one springs up or comes to your attention. It's not a bad problem to have, it's one I love to be honest. I used to frequent The Lost & Found a lot when I first moved back to Birmingham after university but I just fell out of love with the place, I'm not sure why. So I was happy to be invited to the bar/restaurant, as I haven't been there since they refurbished the place and rejigged the menu.
Located on the foodie street that is Bennetts Hill, The Lost & Found is a beautiful "Victorian hideaway" that specialises in ecentric drinks, food and coffee.
I visited this visually beautifully place on a Thursday at 3pm, which meant I could take advantage of their lunch time menu. Especially as it contains 4 vegan options for only £7!
First up, it's the Chipotle & Quinoa Chilli, which is served with smashed avocado and toasted pitta bread. I love the idea of this and that it is served with avocado and pitta bread. It's the perfect texture for chilli but it felt like something was missing. Like it needed to be served with a jacket potato, pasta or the quinoa and chilli should be separate. However, it was flavoursome, a great portion and is also served on their evening menu.
Next up, it's the Coconut, Sweet Potato & Butternut Squash Curry that is served with sticky jasmine rice and a garnish of chilli, mooli and carrot. This was amazing and one of the highlights of the meal. The mixture of vegetables, spice and wonderfully sticky rice made this dish fantastic and I would highly recommend. My dining partner in crime (Lia) loved the rice and said it was her favourite thing. She's an oddball but yes, the rice was good. Overall, a damn good curry and portion!
Another highlight of the vegan dishes was the Roasted Cauliflower & Beetroot Salad, which also contains radicchio, rocket, celery, pomegranate and toasted hazelnuts. I had forgotten how good a salad could be and this was soooooooooooooooooooo good. This was my ultimate dish of the evening. I know, it's a salad but you don't understand how good it was. The cauliflower was a little spicy, the beetroot was meaty and the dressing on the lettuce was lovely and it all went really well with the greens and nuts. Try this and try it now!
The last of the lunch mains was the Harissa Roasted Aubergine Flatbread, that is served with hummus, pomegranate and mint. As you guys know by now I love aubergines and this was no exception. The aubergine was amazing with harissa and the spice accompanied it really well. The letdown was the flatbread, as it was hard yet soggy, not the best but the aubergine was roasted perfectly.
One of the sides I tried were the Baked Sweet Potato Wedges, served with pomegranate and spring onions. They were meaty and also roasted perfectly, they just needed a dip.
Overall, I loved the meal at The Lost & Found. The service was friendly, quick and attentive and the dishes all came at once, which made my life easy when taking pictures, food blogger life haha. Also, I saw the venue go from a quiet eating place to a busy post work hang-out with great live music and atmosphere. Nothing I can fault about this place.
**The views in this blog are my own but the meal was complimentary**
