Food festivals are my favourite thing. Lots of different high-quality vendors that love food as much as I do, what is there not to love?! So with this in mind, off I went to Birmingham's first healthy festival aka Thrive Festival 2017 at The Bond in Digbeth. The last time I went to this venue I was there for the Independent Birmingham Festival last year. That event had barely any vegan/dairy-free options for me but that wasn't the case this time. Thank God! Below are my top picks at the event. Some of the vendors were new to me but a number were some of my favourites on the Birmingham foodie scene.
Borough 22
If you follow my Instagram, you would know that I love the donuts from Borough 22. After trying them when I went to London in March, I fell in love. Then they were stocked in Birmingham's Selfridges and I was overjoyed. I am now not allowed near the concession, due to an ever expanding waistline and threat of diabetes, but made an exception when I saw they were one of the vendors at the festival. It was a pleasure to meet the man behind the amazing donuts and try out the mini editions of the cinnamon, rose, nutella and hibiscus donuts. I personally loved the rose and hibiscus.
Cakes and Ish
Another of my favourite vendors on the vegan foodie scene is Cakes and Ish. I love her Jamaican Patties and the Brookie. I am yet to try the new cakes on the menu, as I am somewhat trying, and failing, at keeping my sugar intake down. But what I have tried was amazing and this time was no exception. Plus Leah always greets me with a lovely smile and chat. This time I did take a few patties for lunch the next day, which was a great idea! She is adding more savoury options, which I look forward to trying.
Soul Fuel UK
I've been following Soul Fuel for a while now and loved the look of their Acai Bowls. On the day I tried their Cacao Kisses bowl, because it looked so lux and amazing, and my mum tried another. We both loved them and found them to be tasty and aesthetically pleasing. Plus the ladies were so friendly and even recognised me from Instagram, I'm never gonna get used to that haha.
The Pour Boys
Ever have a taste of something and have FOMO later on because you didn't have more? No? Ok, just me. Well, this is what I got when I visited The Pour Boys stand at the festival and tried their vegan option of Chocolate and Banana Cake. It was moist, contained the right amount of banana and the perfect amount of chocolate. I actually want more right now! Come back, Pour Boys!

EK Bakery
This London-based brand is new to me and I didn't try anything from this stand but fell in love with how pretty the cupcakes were. The flavours were intriguing and the decorations were just amazing, don't you think? On the day she had a competition to suggest a new brownie flavour. The winners would then win their winning flavour and have it posted to them. I was one of the winners and I cannot wait to try my flavour, which was Mango and Passionfruit.

Natural Healthy Foods
Natural Healthy Foods is a great place for lunch, cake and an unique latte. So, it was good to see two stands at the event. One for cake and another for savoury options. They were the only hot food option, so of course they were busy. But it was nice and the cakes looked so picturesque.

The White Rabbit Pizza Company
Last but not least, is The White Rabbit Pizza Company. They caused an uproar because they make frozen vegan pizzas. They were giving out samples on the day and it was quite tasty. Great for a quick pizza fix.
Overall, the festival was great. Next time, I hope there are more savoury options!
